Route Description for Fingle Wood Circular Walk
Walking the Fingle Wood Circular will allow you to experience the natural beauty of this small forested corner of Dartmoor National Park that features a wonderfully scenic riverside setting, atmospheric woodland terrain, and an interesting historical site. Setting out from the car park, you will make your way north into the cover of the forest and follow the path as it turns to the northwest to descend the hillside. After reaching the edge of the River Teign, follow its banks to the east and relax in the peaceful riverside setting, eventually turning to the south to climb uphill. Here, you will be able to enjoy some lovely views at the View of the Valley vantage point, as well as the opportunity to check out the remnants of an Iron Age hillfort known as Wooston Castle. After exploring the area, continue south to return through the forest to the car park.
