The Godrevy Lighthouse and Mutton Cove Walkis a beautifully scenic excursion in Cornwall that will produce some exceptional views along the coast. While out walking the trail, you will traverse the rugged coastal terrain along Godrevy Point, where you will enjoy some spectacular views across the water towards Godrevy Island and its 19th Century lighthouse. This is an exceptional walking route for anyone that enjoys stunning coastal scenery.

Route Description for Godrevy Lighthouse and Mutton Cove Walk

The Godrevy Lighthouse and Mutton Cove Walk is a fairly laid back journey along the Cornish coast; however, there are some steep drop offs along the cliffside that can be dangerous. Be sure to exercise caution if travelling through these areas with young children. Additionally, you will want to wear comfortable footwear for this walk.

If you are looking for some absolutely breathtaking coastal scenery in Cornwall, then the Godrevy Lighthouse and Mutton Cove Walk will certainly deliver. Featuring dramatic coastal cliffs, an historic lighthouse, and colonies of seals lounging about on the shore, this really is an exceptional adventure that can be enjoyed by walkers of all ages and skill levels.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way west along the footpath, following along the edge of the coast as it bends to the north between the beach and the side of the road. After 0.8 km along the trail, you will meet up with the road and follow it to the left, keeping right along the road as it passes by the toilet facilities and in between the car parks.

After passing by the car park on your right, you will meet up with a footpath and follow it to the right, heading to the northeast to eventually reach a viewpoint overlooking Mutton Cove. here, you will likely be able to spot a large colony of Gre Seals lounging on the shore below. After taking in the views, you will continue making your way along the coast to the northeast until you reach Navax Point.

Once you have reached the point, turn back and retrace your steps for 1.0 km to return to Mutton Cove, keeping right at the fork to make your way around the beautiful coastal landscape of Godrevy Point. Here, you will enjoy amazing views across the water to Godrevy Island, where you will find the 19th Century lighthouse of the same name. After taking in the views, you will make your way south along the trail and enjoy some final coastal views over Godrevy Cove, as you meet up with your original path and follow it back to the trailhead for the Godrevy Lighthouse and Mutton Cove Walk.

Godrevy Lighthouse

Constructed between 1858-1859 on Godrevy Island, the Godrevy Lighthouse can be found along the Cornish coast, just 300 m off Godrevy Point. The lighthouse was built as a means to warn ships of the nearby Stones Reef that sank many ships passing through the area. The 26m tall octagonal tower took one year to build and cost £7,082.
