Route Description for Yucca Loop Trail

Open year-round; the Yucca Loop Trail presents the perfect fresh air escape. Disengage from the stressors of the real world as you venture through the other-worldly sculptures in Palmer Park. There is no shortage of scenery to admire along this trek, from the granite outcrops to the cityscape and epic vistas of Pikes Peak commanding the skyline. Note the terrain is rocky and uneven, so wear sturdy footwear to avoid rolling an ankle! Additionally, the trails can be slippery after rainfall and snowfall, so exercise caution.

Embark on your adventure along the Yucca Loop Hike from the Templeton Trailhead off Brenner Place. From here, track the Templeton Trail west up a small set of switchbacks. This path will lead you into the rock garden whilst exposing fantastic views of the city below and the Front Range summits. You will soon reach an intersection with the Yucca Trail; keep right here, continuing along the Templeton Trail, which will guide you south along the base of a cliff—mind your footing here, rocks that have fallen off the mesa have resulted in many rolled ankles.

When you reach an intersection with the Mesa Trail, take a sharp left, ascending the mesa. Soon after climbing up the ridge, you will hook onto the Yucca Trail. Enjoy the sights of the craggy spires and sculptures as you make your way back to the Templeton Trail. Keep right and retrace your footing along the Templeton Trail back to the trailhead at this junction.
