Route Description for Saint Peter’s Dome Trail
The Saint Peter’s Dome Trail is ideal for intrepid spirits seeking a challenge. This backcountry primitive path is great for those who don’t mind navigating unmarked terrain and don’t shy away from a challenge. Though there is the opportunity to boulder up the side of the mountain, we opted to follow the hiking trail to the summit. Note if you do choose to scramble, be mindful of the rope and use it at your own discretion.
Embark on your adventure along the Saint Peter’s Dome Trail from the trailhead off Gold Camp Road. From here, track northeast along the eastern ridge of the mountain. As you climb, you will be surrounded by mixed pine forests that reveal the odd sight of mountains in the distance. Continue climbing, and you will eventually reach the vertiginous cliffside that intrepid adventurers are welcome to climb!
If you wish to hike, the continuing following the primitive path up a steep switchback to the summit of Saint Peter’s Dome. From here, enjoy sights of the Front Range, Colorado Springs, and the plains. After you are done reveling in the scenery, then retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
