The Black Forest Section 16 Loop is a great nature walk in northern Colorado Springs. Whether you are looking for a weekend adventure or lunchtime fresh air escape, the crowds that this trek attracts are a testament to its beauty. Enjoy the towering pine trees and sparse sights of the mountains that line the horizon. Open year-round, you can also enjoy this route in the winter with a pair of snowshoes!
Embark on your adventure around the Black Forest Section 16 Loop from the trailhead off Burgess Road. From here, the loop can be completed in either direction, but we prefer to track clockwise. From the trailhead, veer left and begin wandering along the Black Forest Section 16 Loop Trail. This section of the route will guide you west beneath the timberline. Soon the path will divert north, through grasslands dotted with towering pines. Enjoy sights of the foothills in the west and continue venturing the trail.
Eventually, the route will guide you east. Enjoy the wide route and revel in the wondrous scenery. Follow the route south, and you will soon be delivered back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
