Route Description for Turville TV Trail
The Turville TV Trail, located near Henley on the Thames, attracts several people during the summer and weekends. Therefore, it's essential to leave early to grab a parking spot at either village green or Bull and Butcher, or aim to walk this route during the week instead. Both places offer limited parking! There are stiles and gates throughout this hike, but the stiles either have gaps or holes tailor-made for dogs to walk through. Lastly, be sure to check the weather before you go, as the trail can get muddy and slippery.
Most hikers will be happy to know that the Turville TV Trail in the Chilterns is a fantastic family-friendly trail that immerses you in the stunning countryside, where a collection of storied buildings await, such as the Cobstone Mill from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. All skill levels will enjoy this hike!
The Turville TV Trail starts from the village green, which sits in Turville's centre, adjacent to the church. Keeping the church on your right, walk up towards the Sleepy Cottage and continue past the school. Soon, you'll walk under a canopy of trees and onto the Chiltern Way. At the top of the slope, go through a gate and enter a field, walking until you reach the next waypoint. Take a left to go down a field followed by passing a gate, crossing the road, and navigating a stile. Continue walking into woodland before emerging onto an open area, where you'll start to ascend towards a collection of trees.
Be sure to pause to marvel at Cobstone Mill, featured in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Continue walking until you reach a T-junction, where you'll take a left. Walk through the woods until you get to the bottom, where you'll take a right. When you reach a corner, turn left to go down a narrow path leading downhill. Pass through another stile and begin walking along the track near Poynatts Farm.
Follow this path until you arrive at an intersection with the road. Take a right, heading towards Skirmett Village. Soon, you'll reach another junction, where you'll go left to Frieth and Lane End. Continue walking, ignoring the gate with a sign for Chiltern Way. Keep going, passing cottages and Valentine Farm until you reach a gate on your left. It will be marked with a sign for a public footpath and Chiltern Way. Go through this gate! This is the top of the loop, so you will now start making your way back to Skirmett. When you get to the intersection on the main road in Skirmett, take a right to start making your way to Fingest.
When you see an intersection marked with No Vehicles Except Access signs, you'll cross it to go through the gate on your right-hand side. Continue straight, passing through another gate, where you'll then follow a path that travels diagonally to the right. Continue walking in a diagonal direction until you get to the road, where you'll turn right. When you reach Fingest, you'll take a left to head towards Stokenchurch, towards St Bartholomew Church! Take a moment to marvel at this church.
After checking out the church, head back to the road junction. Right before you get here, take a right to go through another gate, reaching a narrow footpath. When you reach woodland, take a left to go along a path that leads to a gate. Go through it and cross the road to continue along the Chiltern Way. You'll pass through another stile (dogs should be able to get through this one), which leads to a field. Cut through the field diagonally, and eventually, Turville village will emerge into view.
