Route Description for Northchurch Common, Ashridge Estate Walk
The Northchurch Common, Ashridge Estate Walk in the Chilterns is a family-friendly, dog-friendly stroll that immerses you in scenery coated in verdancy, giving your lungs well-needed doses of fresh air. Expect a pleasant 4.0 km walk that skirts by wildflowers, under canopies of trees, and by open fields that were used to grow potatoes and cereal crops in World War II. Before you go, note that it can get muddy after rain, so be mindful of this! The car park is also tiny, making it essential to get there early on weekends to grab a spot.
From the car park, walk straight for a little less than 300 m before veering right in a counterclockwise direction to start your loop. Shortly after walking 1.0 km, you’ll go left, followed by another left around 200 m later. Continue along this path for approximately 1.5 km before following the trail left to head back to the parking lot.
