Don’t expect an easy-going walk on the 13.1mi Mill End, Southend and Frieth Circular, which sees an elevation gain of 2362ft, but a rewarding loop that unveils a highlight reel of the spectacular scenery sketched across the Chilterns. This wonderland of a montage includes woodland, open fields, villages, Frieth Hill, and a small section will take you along the Thames. The 13.1mi walk may be tiresome for children, but it’s up to your discretion if you think they can take on this challenging circuit!

Route Description for Mill End, Southend and Frieth Circular

Get ready for a challenging day immersed in nature on the remarkable Mill End, Southend and Frieth Circular, which takes you through a highlight reel of the Chilterns. Pass through quaint villages, woodland, fields, up Frieth Hill, and more. From the car park, you’ll back down the road you just came, taking a right to cross the road to meet up with a footpath. At the end of the field, you’ll keep right and continue into the forest situated at the top of the field. From here, you’ll continue in the direction of Cadmore End, but before you enter the village, the loop will continue around, taking you toward Skirmett. After walking through Hatchett Wood, keep going straight, taking a sharp right onto Parmoor Lane. Continue making your way in a straight direction back to your car.

Getting to the Mill End, Southend and Frieth Circular Trailhead

To get to the start of the Mill End, Southend and Frieth Circular, head to Henley-on-Thames and follow the A4155 before taking onto Skirmett Road toward Hambleden. Look for parking at the Mill End Parking (which will be to your left).
