Route Description for The Slickrock Hiking Trail
The Slickrock Trail is an easy-to-moderate hike that gives you an incredible 360 look at the southeastern corner of Canyonlands National Park. This hike gets very hot throughout the day and has little shade, so bring good sun protection and more water than you think you’ll need. We recommend starting this hike early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds. On this trail, you will get to see Canyonlands landmarks such as Big Spring Canyon, Cathedral Butte, and, of course, the Needles Formation.
From the trailhead, follow the path north past the first viewpoint to a divide—this marks the beginning and end of the loop section. Take a right to follow the loop counterclockwise. This trail marches past three more viewpoints before meeting back up with itself.
When you’ve completed the loop, follow the main trail back out to the trailhead. If you are looking for more to do in the area, check out the Big Spring Overlook trail just up the road.
