Route Description for Rothiemurchus Forest Circular Walk
If you aren’t in the mood for trekking through the mountains, but still want to experience the natural beauty of Cairngorms National Park, then the Rothiemurchus Forest Circular Walk is a great family-friendly option that will allow you to do so.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the southeast to pass by the Rothiemurchus Camp and Caravan Site, keeping left along the trail to stay close to the winding banks of Druie. Take some time here to appreciate the peaceful nature of the woodland landscape and riverside setting, as you take in the sounds of the rushing water and meander through the dense tree cover to the southeast.
Eventually, you will reach a crossing over the river that signifies the southeast corner of the route. Instead of crossing the river, turn back and keep left along the trail to continue through the forest to the west. Here, you will come to the charming shores of Lochan Deo, which is a nice place to pause for a quick break. After visiting the small lake, you will head north in order to traverse some more forests and several open meadows, before eventually arriving back at the trailhead where you started.
