Route Description for Morven Walk
If you find yourself in Ballater and are looking for a rough and rugged adventure that will get you out onto the moor and exploring nearby mountain peaks, then the Morven Walk will be a fantastic option for you to check out.
Setting out from the heart of Ballater, you will make your way along the road towards the northeast in order to leave the village behind, where you will eventually break off to the north and head through a stretch of forest. Here, you will make your way in between Culblean Hill on your right and Crannach Hill on your left, continuing on to the north to eventually leave the woodland landscape behind for the barren terrain of the moor.
Navigation will become more difficult here and the terrain will be considerably more boggy, so make sure to bring a GPS if you are worried about losing your way. After traversing the rugged terrain of the moor, you will make the steep climb up to the summit of Morven, where you will enjoy spectacular views across Cairngorms National Park. After taking in the scenery, simply head back down the same way that you came in order to return to the trailhead in Ballater.
