The Creagan Riabhach and Craig of Prony Circular walk is an exceptional adventure in Cairngorms National Park that will see you traverse several rugged hills for views overlooking the surrounding area. While out walking the trail, you will leave Ballater behind and climb above Deeside to the summits of Creagan Riabhach and Craig of Prony, where you will enjoy some breathtaking views of the valley and nearby mountains. This is a great intermediate length route for casual and seasoned walkers alike.

Route Description for Creagan Riabhach and Craig of Prony Circular Walk

Encompassing the rugged hills of Creagan Riabhach and Craig of Prony to the north of Ballater, this fantastic route will be sure to get your heartrate up and take your breath away in more ways than one! The views here are spectacular, with Morven to the north and Lochnagar to the southwest being visible on a clear day.

Setting out from the trailhead in Ballater, you will head to the northeast along the Cinder Track, keeping right along B972 for a short distance before picking up a footpath on the left. Here, you will begin the leg burning climb up to the summit of Creagan Riabnhach, where you will experience some wonderfully scenic views overlooking Deeside.

Continuing on to the west, you will traverse the undulating terrain to the top of Craig of Prony, where you will experience some more amazing views that sweep out across Cairngorms National Park. Once you have had your fill of the spectacular scenery, you will head west and work your way down the hillside in order to reach the banks of the River Gairn. Following the water to the southeast, you will pass through Bridge of Gairn and meet up with the much larger River Dee, following its banks to the southeast to eventually arrive back in Ballater where you began your journey.
