Route Description for Hat Shop via Under the Rim Trail
The Hat Shop via the Under the Rim Trail is a great hike with unique and wonderful geological features in Bryce Canyon National Park. This trail is moderately challenging, featuring both a descent and ascent with steep and loose terrain. Proper, supportive hiking footwear is essential on this trail and we strongly recommend bringing along a set of hiking poles to provide support and save your knees some strain on the steep sections. The Hat Shop itself is a fantastic spot that has the whimsy and wonder of a Dr. Seuss storybook. At the Hat Shop, spires of red sandstone stand tall with “hats” of large, gray boulders balanced on their tops. The Hat Shop is a great place to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy an afternoon taking in the wonders of the Utah wilderness.
To hike to the Hat Shop via the Under the Rim Trail, begin at the Bryce Point Parking lot and head south along the Under the Rim Trail. Wind your way along the trail all the way to the Hat Shop Viewpoint.
Take a long rest at the viewpoint before mustering your strength and starting the climb back up to the trailhead where you began.
