Route Description for Amphitheater Hike
The Amphitheater Hike is a charming adventure that exhibits the beauty of the Colorado wilderness. Hike through enchanting grasslands, forests, and over sandstone outcroppings. Immerse yourself in nature and let the fresh air fill your lungs as you climb up the path. Note that black bears, mountain lions, and deer inhabit the areas, so keep an eye out for them as you trek. When hiking in the late fall and wintertime, be sure to strap on some microspikes to safely navigate the likely icy terrain.
Embark on your journey along the Amphitheater Hike from the 6th Street Connector West Trailhead off Baseline Road. From here track southwest along the 6th Street Connector West Trail keeping right onto the next intersection, merging onto the Baseline Trail. This meadow-cloaked trail reveals stunning views of the Flatirons looming above. At the trail’s end, veer left, and you will be diverted onto the Amphitheater Trail. Now trekking through the woodlands, you will be surrounded by towering cliffs and verdant vegetation.
Ascend the steep path, minding your footing on the rocky terrain. Soon you will merge onto the Saddle Rock Trail to an outcropping with sparse views of the Boulder cityscape. Enjoy the view, the wilderness, and the break here. After catching your breath, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
