Route Description for Rim Rock Nature Hike
If you are seeking a relaxing hike in the Black Canyon Wilderness, you may have found your match. The Rim Rock Nature Hike can be enjoyed by novice hikers and experienced alike as it guides you along the curves of the Black Canyon with limited elevation change. There are several lookout points as you progress along the dirt path that are perfect for a photo-op. Keep your eye out for deer and mountain lions as you walk along the route. Note that dogs are prohibited on the trail from June 1 -August 15 to avoid deer/dog conflicts.
Embark on your adventure from the South Rim Visitors Centre. Begin hiking south along the serviceberry brush meadow. You will shortly meet the Tomichi Lookout Point. Enjoy the vista of the gigantic granite cliff and its lush mountain top forest. Continue hiking until you pass yet another scenic viewpoint.
Soon you will meet the campground which is your turnaround point. Retrace your steps back to the trailhead and visitors centre.
Getting to the Rim Rock Nature Hike Trailhead
Begin the Rim Rock Nature Trail from the South Rim Visitors Centre off of the South Rim Road. Note that the South Rim Road is subject to seasonal road closures.Route Information
