Route Description for Ute Rock Hike
The Ute Rock Hike is a challenging adventure that demands fitness and determination. Short and sweet, this hike will see you gain over 300 m of elevation in a mere 2.5 km, although it is made a little more manageable by the winding path climbing directly up the northeastern slope of Aspen Mountain. Make sure you bring plenty of water, more than you anticipate needing—trust us on this one. Additionally, when trekking in the shoulder seasons be sure to pack a pair of microspikes in case the terrain is icy.
Ready for a challenge? Begin your adventure along the Ute Rock Hike from the Ute Trailhead. From here, follow the Ute Trail through the sparse pine woodlands. Almost immediately after your departure from the trailhead, you will begin navigating the switchbacks up the vertigo-inducing terrain. Follow the route, taking breaks as necessary along the way.
Soon you will reach the rocky outcropping that protrudes from the mountainside. From here, revel in the expansive mountain views and sights of Aspen below. Take some time to appreciate the panorama, and when you are ready, retrace your footing back down the path to the trailhead.
