Route Description for New York Creek Trail
Secluded and impressively scenic, we selfishly hope the New York Creek Trail remains a hidden gem. With awe-inspiring scenery and the perfect amount of technicality, this hike presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy the alpine terrain without having to over-exhaust yourself. There are several stream crossings along this excursion, so make sure you are wearing water-resistant shoes and be ready to do some balancing! When trekking in the late fall we suggest packing a pair of microspikes as sections of the trek may be icy!
Embark on your journey along the New York Creek Trail from the NY Creek Trailhead. From here, head southwest along the trail, intersecting with a few streams. Soon after your departure from the trailhead you will meet an intersection. Keep right here and continue ascending the NY Creek Trail, weaving through meadowlands and pine forests. Enjoy the sounds of the gurgling waters as you make your way further into the wilderness.
Now hiking in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, you will eventually meet the path’s end atop a pass. Revel in the sweeping vistas of the encompassing snow-dusted peaks and notice New York Peak in the north. Admire the scenery, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the route back to the trailhead.
