Route Description for Maroon Creek Trail
We love the Maroon Creek Hike, and we know you will too! With well-maintained, manageable terrain and sweeping alpine vistas, this trek couldn’t get much better. Located in Colorado’s high country, it is important to be acclimatized to the area’s altitude to have the best experience possible. Note that the terrain is often snow-packed, so consider bringing a pair of microspikes or snowshoes in the early spring and fall.
Beginning from the trailhead off Maroon Creek Road, track south along the Maroon Creek Trail which follows the curves of a creek with the same name. Follow along the running alpine waters as you make your way through the corridor of towering cliffs that frame Pyramid Peak at the end of the tunnel. Intersecting with several snowmelt streams, you will eventually meet the shores of Maroon Lake.
From here, revel in the sights of the crystalline, blue-hued waters and the snowmelt cascades that feed it. Don’t forget to look up and appreciate the grandeur of Maroon Peak towering above! Take your time and appreciate the breathtaking scenery before beginning your return. When you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
