Route Description for Lost Man Reservoir Trail

The Lost Man Reservoir Trail is a wonderful trek for those seeking stunning vistas. Conveniently located on Independence Pass, the high starting point saves having to climb up to these alpine waters. Instead, hop off the highway and hike along the short path to the reservoir. With limited elevation gain and manageable terrain, this hike is suitable for hikers of all skill levels—just make sure you are acclimated to the area’s elevation!

Embark on your journey along the Lost Man Reservoir Hike from the Lost Man Loop trailhead off CO-82. From here, track the Lost Man Loop Trail north over Lost Man Creek. Traveling through alpine meadows, you will be granted epic vistas of the surrounding snow-dusted mountains. Enjoy the views as you hike along the trail up to the reservoir. From the shoreline, you will be rewarded with stunning panoramas of the shimmering waters that reflect sights of the encompassing mountains.

Revel in the scenery and consider having a picnic along the shore. If you have a fishing license and your finishing rod, then try your hand at some trout! Still have some energy left in the reserves? Feel free to explore the Lost Man Loop Trail further! If not, retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
