Route Description for Grizzly Lake Trail
Explore what Colorado’s alpine terrain has to offer along the Grizzly Lake Trail. Adventure through meadowlands abundant with vibrant wildflowers in the summer months whilst enjoying expansive mountain views. Located at a high elevation, be sure to acclimatize to the area’s altitude before attempting this trek. Additionally, when venturing the trail in the winter or late fall, be sure to wear microspikes or snowshoes to safely navigate the snow-packed and likely icy terrain. Note that the road to the trailhead requires a vehicle with 4-wheel drive and high ground clearance.
Embark on your adventure along the Grizzly Lake Trail from the trailhead on Lincoln Lake Road. From here, hike east along the Grizzly Lake Trail through pine woodlands. Traveling along the curves of Grizzly Creek, you will be relaxed by the sounds of the gurgling alpine waters. Hiking through a corridor of towering cliffs, the trail will graduate the timberline into luxuriant meadowlands. Eventually, you will reach the shoreline of Grizzly Lake.
The lakeshore boasts epic sights of the blue-hued waters bounded by the craggy cliffs of Grizzly Peak. Enjoy the postcard-worthy alpine views and dip your feet in the inviting, but frigid waters. Once you are finished admiring the panoramas, begin retracing your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
