Route Description for East of Aspen Trail

The East of Aspen Trail presents the perfect opportunity to head out into the fresh air and get your legs moving. Open to walkers, runners, bikers, and stroller pushers—this trek attracts adventurers of all sorts. Wander through the ski-crazed town and along an undulating path that runs parallel to the running waters of the Roaring Fork River. Note: most of this trail is exposed, so we suggest avoiding it on sunny hot summer afternoons. Though accessible year-round, our favorite time to venture this trail is in the fall when the aspen trees are at their peak vibrance.

Embark on your adventure along the East of Aspen Trail from the Ute Trailhead. From here, take the easternmost Ute Trail, merging quickly onto the Aspen Club Trail. Track this route east, turning right onto the East of Aspen Trail at the next intersection. Now traveling along the banks of the Roaring Fork River, you will be relaxed by the sounds of the rushing waters. Enjoy sights of the active city before escaping into more tranquil and isolated meadowlands. Revel in the views of the flanking verdant cliffs as you continue wandering through the river valley.

In the autumn you will be rewarded with views of golden aspens, and lush greenery in the summer. You will eventually meet the path’s end at the junction with Wildwood Lane. From here, turnaround and retrace your footing along the route all the way back to the trailhead.
