Route Description for Dawn Mine Hike
Whether you are after a beautifully scenic adventure, want to learn about local history, or even a bit of both, the Dawn Mine Hike is a great excursion to explore when visiting Altadena, California.
Setting out from the parking area, you will follow the Mount Lowe Motorway to the northeast, before breaking off to the left along the Sunset Ridge Trail. Here, you will quickly meet up with Millard Creek, which will take you past the scenic Millard Falls and further into the Canyon.
After gaining some elevation, you will arrive at the site of the Dawn Mine, which saw minor success in gold mining operations during the late 19th/early 20th centuries. After exploring the area, simply head back along the same trail to return to the trailhead.
