Route Description for Chantry Flats to Mount Wilson Hike
Whether you are looking to take in the natural beauty of the Southern California landscape or want to learn about the fascinating history of the Mount Wilson Observatory, this is an exceptional hike to set out on, as long as you can handle the distance and rigors of the trail!
Setting out from the Chantry Flats parking lot, you will follow along the road as it leads west through the tree cover. After a short distance, pick up the Upper Winter Creek Trail on your right and follow it north to begin your journey into the mountains.
As you work through the undulating terrain, the route will turn to the northwest and pass by Hoegee’s Camp, before continuing on to the slopes of Mount Harvard. Here, you will once again turn north to make the final push up to the summit of Mount Wilson for some incredible views and the chance to visit the Mount Wilson Observatory. After exploring the area, simply backtrack along the trail to return to your starting point.
